The exceptional contribution of our talented and generous volunteers enhances the lives of patients, their families and staff at the KDH every day. They are essential to our continued success in meeting the needs of our community.

Services

Established in 1959, Kemptville District Hospital Auxiliary Inc. has raised over $930,000 for the Hospital to purchase medical equipment for patient care. We offer volunteer services to hospital patients and assist the hospital in providing health care of the highest quality.

Our dedicated group also sponsors key programs including pastoral care, activity programs, the gift shop and fundraising events. Ranging from birthday parties to seasonal celebrations to the Hey Day garage sale fundraiser, we enrich the lives of many at KDH.

Our Mission

"To provide volunteer service to hospital patients, promote good public relations and assist the hospital in providing quality community health care."

Volunteering

We welcome new volunteers to help in various areas of the hospital. Volunteer Application forms can be picked up outside the Human Resources Office in the administration wing of the hospital, or downloaded from www.kdhauxiliary.ca ("join our volunteer team").

Gift Shop
The gift shop is located on the lower floor of the hospital. Patients and visitors will find a variety of gifts and seasonal items, hand-knit articles, light snacks and drinks. Don't miss the Second Hand Rose section for great treasures at bargain prices.

Welcome desks
The welcome desks are located in the new wing inside the new main entrance and in the ER waiting room. They fulfill a very valuable function helping patients and visitors find their way in the hospital, which can be confusing for visitors who are not familiar with the layout.

Operating Rooms
The new wing of the hospital includes three new state-of-the art operating rooms, with areas for pre-and post-operative care. Volunteers greet patients, offer them refreshment in recovery, and help out with tasks like making up stretchers, replenishing the linen cart, or connecting with the patient's escort.

Pastoral Care
Local clergy and trained volunteers attend to the spiritual and emotional needs of the patients and their families. Visits are made at the request of patients. The pastoral care team is on call 24 hours a day. They also conduct two memorial services each year.

Interim Long Term Care Unit
Volunteers assist with outings, games, bingo, crafts, music, pet therapy, BBQ's, walkabouts, birthday parties and friendly visits.

Teen Volunteers
High school students assist in areas such as helping in the hospital kitchen, serving meals to patients, friendly visiting, and taking ice water around to patients.

Fundraising Events
The Auxiliary has various fundraisers every year. Our major fundraiser is "Hey Day" (a giant garage sale) held the second weekend in June. Its success is due to strong community support. Since its inception, the Auxiliary has raised over $930,000 dollars for the hospital.
