Diabetes Education is provided by a multidisciplinary team, which includes a Registered Nurse, Registered Dietitian, and a Pharmacist. The goal of the clinic is to provide individuals with the knowledge, skills and support needed to manage and treat their diabetes. All programs are free of charge.

Diabetes Education Program
This program is for adults diagnosed with diabetes. You'll be provided with in-depth education on diabetes, its management and treatment.
- a monthly 1 day group education session (or 3 evening sessions)
- includes an individual counseling session with the nurse and dietitian
- individual follow up appointments
- an educational update is recommended every 3 to 4 years
Topics include:
- healthy eating
- healthy weight
- label reading
- heart health
- physical activity
- self monitoring of blood glucose
- potential complications
- medications with the Pharmacist

Diabetes Prevention Program
This consists of a half day group program for adults who are diagnosed with Impaired Fasting Glucose and/or Impaired Glucose Tolerance (when blood sugars are higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed with diabetes).
Topics include:
- the basics of diabetes, prediabetes, and the metabolic syndrome
- healthy eating
- physical activity
- healthy weight
Insulin Program
This program is for adults who have recently started insulin therapy or who require an update on the treatment of diabetes with insulin.
- one-on-one Insulin Initiation
- a half day group program is also available
- individual follow up appointments
Topics include:
- how to give yourself insulin
- treatment of hypoglycemia
- carbohydrate counting
- driving & sick day guidelines, and much more
Special Topics are focused on a topic of interest chosen by the clients of the clinic.
Grocery Store Tours are lead by the Diabetes Clinic's Registered Dietitian. Have a tour of a local grocery store and learn more about the foods you buy and how to interpret food labels.
Programs are held in the W.B. George Centre on 48 Shearer Street (Kemptville College Campus accross from the Kemptville District Hospital). Parking is free. All programs are free of charge but all require pre-registration. When attending the 1 day Diabetes Education Program please bring a bagged lunch, your meter (if you have one otherwise you will receive a meter at the Diabetes Clinic), and medications (including insulin) that are required during the day.
