Realignment of Services at KDH
For immediate Release – May 1, 2007
Kemptville, ON, May 1, 2007 - As part of its annual
program and budget planning, where Kemptville District Hospital
matches services with budget, the hospital announced it would be
realigning some services to keep pace with patient service
demand and declining in-patient days.
The average length of stay for patients admitted to the hospital
has dropped 1.5 days in the last two years leaving the hospital
to move forward with the closure of seven acute care beds. The
change anticipates a further one day reduction in length of stay
for the current year. “We know that we can achieve this
realignment, but it will be a challenge to achieve in one year,
what we had two years to achieve before,” said Colin Goodfellow,
CEO of Kemptville District Hospital.
The planned departure of the gynecology surgeon this summer also
presents an opportunity for responsible fiscal realignment. KDH
will maintain its Orthopedics surgery program as it positions
itself to be an orthopedic centre for the Ottawa Valley and area
hospitals. The hospital’s other surgical programs including
endoscopies and general surgeries will remain unchanged.
Colin Goodfellow expressed the staff and administration at KDH
“…are committed to building healthier communities and that means
our services have to adjust to the changes in how care is
provided and what service our community needs.”
