Bequests and Estate Gifts

Wish you could do more to support the work of KDH? Consider including the hospital in your estate plans. You can make a powerful, lasting impact that costs nothing during your lifetime.

Bequests and Planned Giving

As part of your long-term financial planning, a planned gift can offer you substantial tax and estate planning benefits and allow you to make a larger and more lasting gift. It can be a gift the KDH Foundation receives now or in the future.

There are several ways you can plan to make a gift to the KDH Foundation. The option(s) you choose will depend on your unique circumstances and financial objectives.

When you remember Kemptville District Hospital by leaving a charitable bequest, you and your family members can benefit in significant ways:

  • Leave your mark with a lasting legacy
  • Increase inheritance to loved ones
  • Reduce taxes upon death
  • Make a meaningful impact on the health of your community

Your planned gift will impact the future and make a meaningful difference.

Bequests. Your Will provides you with the opportunity to leave a lump sum or percentage of your estate to the Kemptville District Hospital Foundation. Naming the Foundation ensures that you leave a lasting legacy. A receipt will be issued to offset estate taxes as well as taxes arising from capital gains.

Gifts of Property. A donation of property can create a gift of exceptional importance. The current value of the property will qualify as a donation for tax purposes. You can also donate property through your Will.

Life Insurance. You can donate an existing life insurance policy that is no longer needed and receive a tax receipt for the current cash value of the policy. Or you could take out a life insurance policy with the Kemptville District Hospital Foundation as the beneficiary. You pay a small annual premium, and your eventual gift can be quite significant. Charitable tax receipts are issued for insurance premiums paid.

Endowment Funds. An endowment fund is a major donation that provides income in perpetuity and can be restricted to fund a specific purpose. Endowment funds are a permanently restricted net asset, the principal of which is protected and the income from which may be reinvested or spent depending on the donor’s wishes. Endowment funds may be named in honour of a family member or friend. Permanent endowments may be created with gifts of $10,000 or more.

Let us help you arrange a planned gift

Kemptville District Hospital Foundation staff would be pleased to provide you with information on planned giving, and can advise on where your gift might have the greatest impact. While the Foundation may provide information, you should always work with an independent professional adviser such as a financial planner, lawyer, accountant, trust officer or insurance agent. He or she can tell you about the tax benefits of making a planned gift and ensure that you derive the maximum legal advantages for your gift.
