May 11, 2015 – Along with hospitals across Canada, Kemptville District Hospital (KDH) is honouring its dedicated nursing professionals during National Nursing Week 2015, May 11 to 17.

A week of special events and activities is planned to celebrate the invaluable contributions of the hospital’s nurses, recognized by patients for their professionalism and compassion.

In surveys conducted by National Research Corporation Canada, patients have rated KDH in the top 10 percent in Ontario three times in the past three years; KDH nurses were instrumental in this achievement, as well as the hospital’s attainment of Accreditation with Exemplary Status, Accreditation Canada’s highest ranking.

“KDH is a small, rural hospital, but within its walls we have staff who take pride in their hospital, their patients, and their community,” said Cathy Burke, Vice President of Nursing and Clinical Services. “On the occasion of National Nursing Week, we would like to say thank you to all of our nurses for all that they do. It is truly an honour to work with such wonderful staff,” she added.

The second week of May has been celebrated as National Nursing Week in Canada since 1985, in recognition of the dedication and achievements of the nursing profession. In the middle of the week, Florence Nightingale’s birthday – May 12 – is celebrated as International Nurses Day. Nightingale is best known around the world as the ‘Lady with the Lamp’, who nursed British solders during the Crimean War and turned nursing into a profession.
