Boxing Day at the Races raises over $15,000 for KDH Foundation

Kemptville, Ontario December 30, 2009 –  Soggy weather did not dampen the spirits of the over 200 people that turned out for the 6th Annual Boxing Day at the Races event on Saturday, December 26th at Rideau Carleton Raceway.

While some of the races were delayed in starting due to freezing rain and slush, the full program went ahead as scheduled and about $15,500 was raised for the Kemptville District Hospital Foundation.

Organized by Gerald Tallman and Harry Pratt, this year’s event also included a special tribute race in memory of Jim Peaker, a well-known cattle farmer from the area who passed away earlier this month.  Mr. Peaker served for 12 years on the Kemptville District Hospital Board of Directors and played a role in the early phases of the Hospital’s current redevelopment.   Mr. Peaker attended Boxing Day at the Races every year and many members of his family attended the event this year in his honour.

Boxing Day at the Races returns again next year on December 26th – don’t forget to mark your calendar.
