Generous community pushes campaign past $5 million goal

It’s official! The Lean on Me Campaign to expand and renovate Kemptville District Hospital officially ended Feb. 12, having surpassed its $5 million goal.

“The volunteers on our campaign team never doubted we would reach our goal,” said Lean on Me Campaign Chair Gerald Tallman. “This has always been one of the most generous communities in Canada.”

“KDH donors have always demonstrated their support and loyalty, but their tremendous generosity has never shone as brightly as it did during the Lean on Me Campaign,” said KDH Chief Executive Officer Colin Goodfellow. “The reality of health care in Canada today is that philanthropy is increasingly important if we are to maintain excellence and expand our services to meet growing needs. Our supporters understand the critical role they play.”

“We are very grateful to the Lean on Me Campaign team,” said Dale Kirkpatrick, Chair of the Kemptville District Hospital Board of Directors. “To raise over $5 million in a small community in 18 months is a remarkable achievement.”

The announcement that the campaign had reached $5,237,203 in gifts and pledges was made at the conclusion of the North Grenville Community Sweetheart Brunch, hosted by Knights of Columbus Council 5333. Confirmation of provincial government funding for the $10 million expansion project was received Jan. 20, when Minister of Health and Long-Term Care George Smitherman announced the ministry would provide up to $5.1 million.

The success of the Lean on Me Campaign will see a 12,000 foot expansion at Kemptville District Hospital, as well as extensive renovations to 15,000 feet of existing space. The plans include an entirely new and larger emergency department and new space for clinics, physiotherapy and diagnostic imaging.
