Minister approves KDH redevelopment

Kemptville District Hospital's long-awaited expansion plans received the green light Friday, Jan. 20. The Honourable George Smitherman, Minister of Health and Long Term Care, announced the provincial government has approved the redevelopment plans. Mr. Smitherman made the announcement during a visit to Arnprior & District Memorial Hospital.

"This is a great day for all the communities we serve," said CEO Colin Goodfellow. "This redevelopment means the hospital is here to stay and that we are just getting started on our mission to build healthier communities."

The $10 million project will see 12,000 square feet of new space added to Kemptville District Hospital, along with renovations to an existing 15,000 feet of space. The redevelopment will add a completely new emergency department and bring major improvements to a variety of services including operating rooms, physiotherapy, x-ray and clinic space for specialists.

Friday's announcement confirmed the government will provide KDH with $5,137,250 to fund the redevelopment. The remaining funds have been raised in the community.

"We have been eagerly anticipating this announcement for some time," said Dale Kirkpatrick, Chair of the Kemptville District Hospital Board of Directors. "Our staff and patients deserve the space that modern health care demands."

"The overwhelmingly generous response of our residents to the Lean on Me fundraising campaign is the strongest indication of how important this project is to the community," said John Curtis, Chair of the Kemptville District Hospital Foundation."

The Lean on Me team is planning to make the final official announcement of the campaign in conjunction with the North Grenville Community Sweetheart Brunch, at 1 p.m. Sunday, February 12.
