Kemptville, ON, July 13, 2009 – Kemptville District Hospital would like to share with the community some recent staffing changes.
After holding the position for many years, Dr. Larry Schnurr recently stepped down as Chief of Staff at KDH. As one of the driving forces behind the building of the KDH Health Centre, Dr. Schnurr helped recruit several family doctors to the Kemptville area, ensuring adequate coverage for local residents. Dr. Schnurr remains a valued member of the KDH medical staff and the Hospital wishes to thank him for his many years of exemplary service to the community.
Dr. Greg Leonard has accepted the position as Chief of Staff. Dr. Leonard has been in Kemptville since 1983 and served previously as Chief of Staff in the late 80s. In accepting the appointment, Dr. Leonard noted his dedication to KDH and that his “heart is really in the Hospital”. Dr. Leonard previously served as Chief of the Emergency Department.
Accepting the position as new ER Chief is Dr. Jonathan Rathwell. A recent addition to the KDH team, Dr. Rathwell moved to Kemptville following the Hospital’s successful physician recruiting blitz in 2007. A graduate of Queen’s and University of Ottawa, one of the reasons that Dr. Rathwell chose KDH was because he always wanted to work in a small community. “I wanted to be in a place where I could be more involved in a patient’s care. I’m looking forward to this new and challenging role”. Dr. Rathwell also serves as the Team Physician for the Kemptville 73s hockey team.
The appointments were confirmed at the Annual General Meeting for KDH’s medical staff, which took place on June 19th. KDH CEO Colin Goodfellow expressed satisfaction with both appointments. “We are fortunate that both Dr. Leonard and Dr. Rathwell have stepped up to the plate to serve the community and the Hospital in this way. As one of our newer recruits, Dr. Rathwell represents our next generation of physicians, who are eager and willing to serve the community and follow in the footsteps of our senior staff, such as Dr. Leonard and Dr. Schnurr before him”, said Goodfellow. He also thanked Dr. Schnurr for his many years of service as Chief of Staff.
