Bigger Better Spaces in Store for KDH Redevelopment Project

Kemptville, ON, June 11, 2007 – Over the years the Kemptville District Hospital has undergone a number of renovations designed to keep pace with the changing technologies and improved delivery methods for patient care. This past March the Hospital made a public announcement there would be 38,000 square feet of new space but what does that mean for each of the new departments?

To being, it’s no secret that North Grenville is one of the fastest growing communities in Eastern Ontario and it’s expected to continue that trend for the next several years. Currently, the KDH Emergency Department accepts more than 15,000 visits a year and is not designed to accommodate those numbers. Excitement certainly seems to be building because when construction is complete the new Emergency Department will have increased square footage an astounding 174.6%. That increase will finally allow for nine treatment/observation spaces, a state of the art resuscitation/trauma room, a central nursing station to better monitor patients and a more functional layout for the storage and use of the new equipment.

In recent years the surgical services have expanded to provide the much needed procedures closer to home. Three new operating suites will occupy the second floor of the new building providing 111% more space for surgeries.

Back downstairs located behind the new Emergency Department will be the Diagnostic Imaging Department. This area plays a key role in patient care by providing information to physicians that help to diagnose and treat illness. The Diagnostic Imaging Department, currently situated near the existing Emergency Department, does not have sufficient space to manage the growing demand. With 56% more space, the new department will be able to better accommodate new equipment needs and patients will see a much improved layout with larger radiology rooms.

All in all, the larger rooms, much improved functionality and better delivery of services point to the positive steps the Hospital is taking to securing its future for families living in the region.
