Media Release - June 16, 2009

After a wait of 15 years, construction has begun on the redevelopment project at the Kemptville District Hospital (KDH).  The official ground-breaking ceremony took place on May 29th and was attended by over 200 dignitaries, board members, donors, staff, community members and friends of the Hospital.

When complete, the new state-of-the-art, 38,000 square-foot facility will house the Emergency, Diagnostic Imaging and Operating departments. The expansion will dramatically improve functionality, double the hospital?s operating space and increase efficiencies and comfort for patients and staff.

As a leading rural hospital in one of Eastern Ontario?s fastest growing communities, Kemptville District Hospital is a fully accredited healthcare facility committed to providing exceptional quality care through a range of services based on advanced expertise, technologies and patient care practices. KDH provides 24 hour emergency department services, remote diagnostic imaging, medical and surgical specialty clinics, long-term care and is adding three Operating rooms to support it surgical program.

Funding for the $23 million building expansion has come from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, as well as through the extraordinary efforts of the community which gave $5 million of the funds necessary for the expansion project. Additional fundraising will begin shortly to raise the $1 million needed to fully equip the new mammography suite.
