Kemptville District Hospital Moves a Step Closer to Ground Breaking

Kemptville, ON, June 26, 2007 – Representatives from the Kemptville District Hospital Redevelopment Project Team were on hand last Friday to present the official Site Plan Review to the Mayor of North Grenville, Bill Gooch.

The site plan includes a number of drawings to illustrate all aspects of the proposed development within the site. They identify items such as the size and use of the proposed building, incoming and outgoing services, lighting, traffic routes and landscaping. In addition, the drawings identify the overall site area, area of any existing development and area of the proposed development. The submission is generally circulated to all governmental departments who are stakeholders in the property. This may include the Planning Department, Fire Department, Building Department, the Ministry of the Environment, Public Works and HydroOne.

Making the site plan application is the first step in obtaining Municipal approval for the development. The next Municipal approval will be a Building Permit. Before a Building Permit Application can be reviewed, the Municipality must be assured that the development meets all laws, bylaws, codes and standards identified for the particular site.

KDH staff has been working closely with Parkin Architects for the past several months to get the project to this stage. As the prime consultant Parkin’s role has been to design the site layout, coordinate with various specialist subconsultants such as civil, electrical, mechanical and landscape architects and to act as the Hospital’s agent for the Municipal approvals process.

The Municipality has suggested that the Hospital allow a minimum of three months for the Site Plan Review. Since many of the comments they obtain are from outside agencies, the process can take longer.

To learn more about the redevelopment project visit the Hospital website at www.kdh.on.ca. The site includes elevation sketches, a timeline and description of the new departments. Construction is set to begin in spring 2008.
