Royal Canadian Legion helps KDH Foundation buy new cardiac monitor

Kemptville, Ontario, March 24, 2010 – Legion Donations

The Kemptville District Hospital recently purchased two much needed cardiac monitors with some help from the Royal Canadian Legion?s Provincial Command Charitable Foundation and the Royal Canadian Legion Zone G3 Command.

The cardiac monitors, for use in the Hospital?s Critical Care Unit, cost $44,000 each. A monitor was also purchased last year and the Hospital hopes to purchase another one next year. Members of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 212 in Kemptville were on hand to present the first cheque on behalf of the Provincial Command Charitable Foundation on March 17th, which happened to be the day that Phillips Healthcare was on-site to install the new units.

KDH Nursing Manager Barbara Savage showed the Legion members in attendance how the device worked, while Philips Healthcare technician Tim Thurston added that the Hospital?s new monitors were the most popular ones in Canada. The monitors also have portable unit with a battery backup that can be disconnected from the main unit, so that patients can be monitored continuously if they have to be transported from their room for diagnostic purposes.

Joanne Dudka, President of the RCL Branch 212 in Kemptville noted that Legions are very generous supporters of organizations in the communities where they are located.

On March 20th, the Royal Canadian Legion Zone G3 Command held their annual conference in Manotick. KDH Foundation Director Linda Bell was on hand to receive a cheque for $3000 from Zone Commander Sharon Murray. These funds will also be designated towards the purchase of the cardiac monitor.

In recent years, the Royal Canadian Legion locally and provincially has donated more than $50,000 to the Kemptville District Hospital Foundation.
