KDH actively recruiting new doctors to serve community
The hunt is on! Kemptville District Hospital has begun actively seeking new family physicians to serve the community.
The top 10 reasons to come to Kemptville provided the focus of hospital representatives’ recent message to family physicians. the 17th annual Research, Inquiry and Opinion (RIO) Day hosted by the Department of Family Medicine at Ottawa’s Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre.
With the support of the North Grenville Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee, the hospital is seeking a maximum of three family physicians.
“Our hospital has a reputation for providing excellent care, and at the same time we’re part of a dynamic and growing community,” said KDH Chief Executive Officer Colin Goodfellow. “I’m confident that we have a great deal to offer new physicians.”
Some of the top reasons for physicians to come to Kemptville include significant financial incentives provided by the Municipality of North Grenville and provincial government; modern offices at the KDH Health Centre with subsidized overhead; the opportunity to join a group of young doctors in a group practice; and the opportunity to work at a hospital which is about to undergo an $11 million expansion and redevelopment.
With the support of the municipal council and the North Grenville Chamber of Commerce, Kemptville District Hospital took the lead in 2003 in forming a committee to attract new doctors to address a chronic shortage in the community. In September 2003, the Municipality of North Grenville voted to provide funding to ensure a highly competitive incentive program to attract new physicians to the area. North Grenville also received under-serviced area designation from the province of Ontario, providing additional financial incentives for physicians to locate in the area.
The committee hosted a successful physician recruitment day showcasing the hospital and community for visiting medical students in 2004. A second recruitment day is being planned for May 27, 2006.
