Rideau Chamber hosts information night for Kemptville Hospital
The Rideau Chamber of Commerce joined forces with Kemptville District Hospital Tuesday, May 9 in an effort to inform Manotick area residents of the services available at their community hospital.
Topics of discussion during the evening at the Manotick Arena hall included the impact of Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) on community hospitals in the area, along with recent developments at KDH, including the rapid growth of the day surgery program and the progress of the hospital’s major expansion and redevelopment project.
The number of day surgery procedures performed at KDH annually has grown from just 100 cases in 2001-02 to 1,210 cases in 2005-06. The hospital is committed to performing 4,000 day surgeries in 2006-07. More and more of those patients are being referred by Manotick’s G.P.s.
Plans for hospital redevelopment are proceeding rapidly, said KDH Chief Executive Officer Colin Goodfellow. The administration intends to call for tenders for the project in the winter of 2006-07, with ground-breaking set for the first half of 2007. The redevelopment will provide two day surgery rooms as well as the much needed new and larger emergency department.
Kemptville District Hospital offers 24-hour emergency services. Mr. Goodfellow noted that the number of emergency cases coming to the hospital has increased steadily, with 15,500 cases expected this year. “Our capacity to keep pace will be greatly enhanced once the new building is in place,” he said.
Mr. Goodfellow thanked Rideau Chamber President Dr. Salima Ismail and her members for their support in hosting the evening and helping to inform the public about locally-available health care services.
