KDH staff celebrate Nurses Week 2006
The vital role played by nurses in promoting the health and wellness of Canadians provided the theme for this year’s national Nurses Week, celebrated May 8-14.
“Nurses Week is a time when we reflect on our ability to make a difference in people’s lives,” said Kim Peterson, Director of Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Kemptville District Hospital. Ms. Peterson said this year’s theme, Nursing: Promoting Healthy Choices for Healthy Living, was very appropriate because nurses assist people every day in making healthy choices, building healthier communities one person at a time.
Celebrations during the week honoured over 230,000 nurses in Canada, including Kemptville District Hospital’s 38 Registered Nurses (RNs), 23 Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) and nine Personal Care Assistants (PCAs).
One of the highlights of the Week was a writing contest in which staff were invited to submit an essay on “the co-worker I admire most.” Submissions were received for Donna Windsor, Dr. Greg Leonard, Dr. C.K. Thomas, Patsy Zeron, Eileen Goddard and Elizabeth Coville, as well as a nomination for the entire nursing department. Winners of a quiz to determine who knew the most about their co-workers were Gail Pitchers and Trudy Arnaud.
Other Nursing Week activities at KDH included an open forum on the future of nursing and a teleconference on the role of nurses in telehealth.

Together we make a difference!
Kemptville District Hospital staff Sue Tousant and Marcelle Brun helped Director of Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer Kim Peterson cut this special cake in honour of Nurses Week, May 7-12. During the week, excellence in nursing care was celebrated as staff were invited to submit nominations for the co-worker they most admired.
