Kemptville, ON, November 10, 2008 - Kemptville District Hospital finally has approval to go to tender, so construction of its& Redevelopment can begin early 2009. This announcement was made by Board Chair Alexandra Pontrbriand in front of a packed audience at the annual Hospital fundraising Gala Saturday night in Kemptville. "This is the moment we have all been waiting for," said Pontbriand to enthusiastic applause. With approval from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care in hand, the Hospital will go to tender in about two weeks time. The Hospital expects to choose a low-bid contractor in January, with actual construction beginning about a month later. By spring 2009 construction should be in full gear.
The community raised $5 million in support of this initiative in 2005 but the original design was overturned by the Ministry of Health. The Ministry favoured a larger, more functional design to serve the needs of the growing community, and play a wider role in the region. The enhanced design raised the cost of this Redevelopment from $10 million to $22 million, and lengthened the project timeline.
Pontbriand thanked members of the Redevelopment Facilitation Committee. She also noted difficult financial times on the horizon. She assured the audience the Board had been working to protect and advance the Hospital's ability to provide health services to the community.
