Kemptville, ON, October 26, 2007 – If you’ve ever had occasion to use the KDH ER Department, chances are you experienced prompt, considerate and highly professional attention. That’s something we’re proud of and supported by letters from people who thank us for the kind and considerate care they received.
One such patient wrote “Thanks for taking such good care of my husband while he was in the Emergency this past Sunday. I always felt I was in good hands, although I was petrified. Your professionalism made all the difference.” Another wrote, “Thank you to the Emergency Department for the excellent care and kindness given to my mother.”
In a recent province wide study of patient satisfaction the Canadian Institute for Health Information tagged KDH as a high performer in patient satisfaction. That means our hospital rated above average in the four areas of patient satisfaction tested including overall impression, communication, consideration, and responsiveness.
Patients’ overall favourable impression of our Emergency Department was 83.3% where the provincial average was 74.4%. Our communication with patients and families while in the ER was similarly 10% higher than the provincial average. Consideration, staff and physician treatment of patients with respect and courtesy, at 80.8% was also well above the provincial average of 72%. Finally our timeliness to care and responsiveness to patients’ needs was a stellar 11.3% above the province’s average of 65.4%. To earn the designation as a high performance ER Department the hospital must excel in all four areas. Of the 90 Ontario Emergency Departments evaluated no teaching hospitals achieved this rating.
