Pain and Symptom ManagementThe Pain and Symptom Management program is provided by an interdisciplinary team of experts, including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, pharmacists, dietician and pastoral care, to develop the treatment most appropriate to each case. The goal is to treat and stabilize pain and other symptoms, and to enable the patient to return to his or her family . In 2005, patients responding to a satisfaction survey administered by the Ontario Hospital Association reported they were 100 per cent satisfied with the pain management treatment they received during their stay at Kemptville District Hospital. To access this service you need a referral from a physician. Palliative CareThe KDH's palliative care program supports people living with life threatening illness. Using a team approach, the program provides "care that aims to relieve suffering and improve the quality of life throughout the illness experience, so that patients and families can realize their full potential to live even when they are dying." The focus is on providing care to people who need services around the clock. Compassionate, experienced, knowledgeable people provide skilled care that eases your pain and other symptoms. The team includes physicians, nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, dietary, pastoral care and palliative care volunteers. Members of the team work with community agencies to ensure a smooth transition home or to another facility if and when this is appropriate. The goal of the program is to help you live well to the end of your life. To access this service you need a referral from a physician. |
