Kemptville District Hospital is committed to Building Healthier Communities. We encourage you to take control of your own health through education sessions and wellness services.
The Diabetes Clinic is provided by a multidisciplinary team, which includes a Registered Dietician, Registered Nurse, Pharmacist and Foot Care Nurse. The goal of the clinic is to provide individuals with the tools they need to manage and treat their diabetes.
The clinic is offered to the community free of charge.

Diabetes Education Program
This program is for adults diagnosed with diabetes. You will be provided with in-depth education on diabetes, its management and treatment. Offered monthly, the program includes individual counselling with the nurse and dietician, as well as a two-day group education session.
Topics include:
- potential complications
- self monitoring of blood glucose
- foot care
- stress management
- nutrition for diabetes
- physical activity
- heart health
- label reading
- mediations, among other topics
Diabetes Prevention
Offered every two months, this program is for adults who are diagnosed with Impaired Fasting Glucose and/or Impaired Glucose Tolerance. It is also for people who are at high risk for developing diabetes. It includes a ½ group session and individual counselling if needed.
Topics include:
- the basics of diabetes and pre-diabetes
- healthy lifestyle
- weight control
- healthy eating
Diabetes and Insulin
This program is for adults who have recently started insulin therapy or who require an update on the treatment of diabetes with insulin. Offered monthly, the program includes a 1-hour individual counselling session with the nurse and dietician and individual follow-up appointments.
Topics include:
- how to give yourself insulin
- treatment of hypoglycemia
- carbohydrate counting
- healthy lifestyle
- driving and sick day guidelines

The Continence Care for Success Clinic
Launched in October 2009, this new service is available for seniors living in the Lanark, Leeds and North Grenville area. Our Clinic locations are conveniently located within the community to reduce travel time for seniors.
You may call yourself or be referred by your family doctor, specialist or health care provider. In the Continence Care for Success Clinic, you are seen by a certified Nurse Continence Advisor, a Registered Nurse with advanced education and training in continence care. The Clinic is offered free of charge through funding made available by the Champlain LHIN. There is a charge, however, for medical devices such as pessaries.
Who Should Come to the Continence Care for Success Clinic?
If you are 55 years of age or over and have any of these problems:
- go to the bathroom often
- worry about falling when rushing to the bathroom
- leak urine when you cough, laugh, sneeze or do an activity
- have frequent bladder infections
- have problems with constipation
- have problems with bowel control
- wake up more than twice during the night to urinate
- have a strong need to urinate right away
- need to learn how to put a catheter in yourself
- have a prolapse in the vagina

Urinary incontinence is when you pass or leak urine without control.
How common is urinary incontinence?
Urinary incontinence affects 3.3 million Canadians (nearly 10% of the population). An estimated 25-30% of seniors in the community deal with incontinence. It is becoming one of the top reasons for admission to nursing homes.
Is urinary incontinence a normal part of aging?
No, urinary incontinence has many causes and can also greatly affect your quality of life.
Bladder and bowel problems are not something you need to live with. These problems can be treated, managed or cured, often without medication or surgery.
Take charge of your bladder and bowel health. Incontinence can be treated.
