The best piece of advice I ever received was from a previous KDH nurse: "Don't be afraid to speak up!"

Heather Graham,Registered NurseKemptville District Hospital

I’m a full-time emergency room nurse. I triage and assess patients that come to the emergency room. I also provide treatment and teaching to patients and their families.

Patient interaction, camaraderie with fellow nurses/medical staff and the impact we have on patients and their families gives me the most job satisfaction.

I chose KDH in May 1989 because I wasn’t interested in working in the city. I find working at KDH we all know each other and we are like family. We all help each other during good and bad times.

I believe being a good communicator, maintaining a sense of humor, and being a caring person are very important in my job.

The best piece of advice I ever received was from a previous KDH nurse: “Don’t be afraid to speak up!” Whether it is because you don’t know something, or see something that makes you uncomfortable, or see something that can be improved, it is important to speak up!
