Parking

KDH has a ‘Scan to Pay’ gateless entry parking system; the cost is a $6 flat rate for up to 24 hours. Users pay on arrival by scanning the QR code on our parking signs or sending a text as indicated on the signs. 1. Enter the parking lot and park in an open space.
  2. Note your license plate number.
  3. Locate a Parking sign and use your cell phone camera to scan the QR code or send a text as indicated on the sign; follow instructions to pay the $6 flat rate, good for up to 24 hours:
    • Click on the link that pops up and a screen will appear to enable you to choose your length of stay and make a secure payment by debit/credit card, Google Pay or Apple Pay — no need to download an app or create an account.
    • You will be prompted to add your license plate number and email address.
    • Complete payment and proceed into the hospital.

Note: there is a $0.35 transaction fee for an online payment.

OR

For those who prefer to pay by cash, a cash payment meter is available in the ER entrance. Please note: the cash payment meter only accepts coins – exact change. An ATM is located nearby along with a machine that changes paper bills into coins.

Following payment by either method, there is no need to display your receipt on your dashboard.

There are Parking signs located throughout both KDH parking lots. Watch for a QR code and reminder of the $6 flat rate to park.

There is no charge for drop off or pick up.

  • Patients may be dropped off at the pavement area adjacent to ourMain Entrance – watch for the sign that says, ‘PATIENT DROP-OFF ONLY – NO PARKING.’
  •  If you are picking up a patient, choose one of two spots labelled PATIENT PICK-UP ONLY – 20 MINUTES MAXIMUM. These spots are located in front of the KDH Health Centre building near the ER entrance.
  • Please do not use the ambulance lane to drop off patients; please use the lane beside it instead.
  • You can pay by credit card, debit/credit card (not debit), Google Pay or Apple Pay when you scan the QR code on our parking signs or send a text to the number indicated on the signs.  Note: there is a $0.35 transaction fee for online payment.
  • Debit cards can only be used at the ATM (ER entrance) to obtain cash that can be changed into coins (change machine in ER entrance) for the parking meters (ER entrance, Clinics entrance, and KDH Health Centre vestibule).
  •  You can pay by cash at the cash payment meter in the ER entrance, Clinics entrance and KDH Health Centre vestibule. Please note: the cash payment meter only accepts coins – exact change. An ATM is located in the ER entrance, along with a machine that changes paper bills into coins.

With this new parking system, there is a 15-minute grace period, so if you are in and out of the parking lot in 15 minutes or less, you don’t need to pay regardless of where you park.  We also have a PATIENT DROP-OFF area marked with a sign (the pavement alongside our Main Entrance) where you can simply stop and drop off a patient and then leave the parking lot. Additionally, we have two parking spots in front of the KDH Health Centre that are designated “PATIENT PICK-UP ONLY” – if you are picking up a patient, you may park your car for free for 20 minutes or less by selecting one of the two designated spots.

Once you have paid the daily rate, your license plate is entered into our system as paid; you can then come and go throughout the 24-hour period with no extra charge.

Our ER Volunteer Greeters are able to assist people with paying for parking. Please note: volunteers are not onsite 24/7, and you can also send an email to kdh_parking@kdh.on.ca

We have moved to a gateless entry parking system to ensure seamless entry and exit for all users. The most important benefit of this new parking system is that it enables direct access for emergency vehicles to our ER. With the previous system, there were occasional malfunctions resulting in ambulances stuck at the gates, waiting to get in or out of the parking lot. Patients and families also got stuck sometimes, and it understandably caused a huge amount of frustration. With the new gateless system, that will never happen again.

We value your feedback. If you have any comments or concerns, please contact kdh_parking@kdh.on.ca

“I had surgery at KDH for a knee injury. The experience I had was like no other. The video of what to expect was superbly done and put me at ease before I arrived. The greeter was welcoming and had a great sense of humour. I could tell he really enjoyed his job! The nurse who took care of me explained everything that would happen. I shared with her my fear of IVs and she used a small needle and distracted me so I felt only a pinch. Dr. Marshall explained the procedure and what would happen. He wheeled me into surgery and the people in the OR all introduced themselves and told me what they do. After the surgery, another nurse was there when I opened my eyes and she could see I was confused so she told me it was ok to go back to sleep for a little while. Later, she made sure I was ready to go. I work in the Human Resources field, and I would love to know more about how you create a culture where everyone wants to be at work and be their best selves!”
