What Our Patients Have To Say
“I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the physicians, nurses, nursing aides, dietary, environmental services, lab, and diagnostic imaging staff, and many others who helped so much to make my stay in March so much easier for me. It was a worrying time for me and my family. There was not a single staff member at any time who did not make me feel more at ease and well cared for. I am still finding ways to cope with my condition and slowly but steadily improving with the regular support of my doctors and remain cautiously optimistic, but it looks like a long road ahead. I learned a lot while I was being cared for, particularly about the value of those small instances of human kindness. I wanted to express my appreciation for all the dedicated work everyone at KDH does.”

“My two-year-old daughter and I were in the KDH emergency department last night and we were gifted the sweetest little knitted doll. It really made all the difference to my daughter. I would very much like to thank the people that make the dolls and donate to their supplies, and am wondering if it’s possible to get the name of the person who knitted this one so we can name it after them.”

“I’d like to share about the beautiful experience I had in your ER last week. To begin, the woman at the COVID screening station was so kind and understanding. She even allowed my five-year-old and myself to sit outside for our lunch, so I could give him some fresh air and room to move around. Our time with Dr Brisebois was possibly the best experience I’ve ever had with a physician. He was so kind and patient. He listened to my concerns as a parent. He validated our experience and shared plenty of information, and was just a rare gem in the medical field.”

Went to KDH for a mammogram today. So very impressed at the way things were handled when I arrived. Pertinent questions and screening. Very professional. Felt safe and secure. Kudos to all the staff there! Highly recommend you folks as always.”

“I would like to thank and compliment all the staff we encountered at our visit to the ER yesterday with our 11-year-old son. Everyone we encountered was wonderful from the screener at the door to the doctor. In particular Dr. Brisebois was amazing, leaving no stone unturned to ensure our son didn't have any underlying issues. Valetta and all the other nurses were so helpful. We could see everyone was working flat out but they all had time and patience for us.”

“It is with immense gratitude that we write to express our appreciation for our mother’s recent inpatient stay. Georgina was admitted through the ER and spent a few weeks on the inpatient medical unit before being transferred to Convalescent Care. She is 89 years of age. It is quite safe to say that her care at KDH was exemplary from her time in the ER to her organized discharge just over three months later. Our family would like to extend our warmest thanks to all the nurses, RPN's, and dietary staff who were involved in her care. We are also most grateful for the care and excellence provided to her daily by the Occupational Therapist and the Physiotherapy Team. KDH delivers excellence in the care of our aging population with a client-centred approach, with very driven teams, not only to complete daily tasks but to accomplish patient goals."

“I had surgery at KDH for a knee injury. The experience I had was like no other. The video of what to expect was superbly done and put me at ease before I arrived. The greeter was welcoming and had a great sense of humour. I could tell he really enjoyed his job! The nurse who took care of me explained everything that would happen. I shared with her my fear of IVs and she used a small needle and distracted me so I felt only a pinch. Dr. Marshall explained the procedure and what would happen. He wheeled me into surgery and the people in the OR all introduced themselves and told me what they do. After the surgery, another nurse was there when I opened my eyes and she could see I was confused so she told me it was ok to go back to sleep for a little while. Later, she made sure I was ready to go. I work in the Human Resources field, and I would love to know more about how you create a culture where everyone wants to be at work and be their best selves!”

“I wanted to tell you how truly grateful I am for the Clinics at KDH. Almost a year of injections for pain in Dr. Jamal’s clinic have been quite successful and after last Friday's appointment, I am now on "remit" until November. Through Dr. Jamal I was referred to Dr. Fox, who diagnosed Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in my right wrist, for which I had surgery with Dr. Chan – all through your Clinic system. Everyone in the Clinics has been so helpful and kind throughout this: Kerry and Chrissie at the door and June in Bookings. They have made my visits easier and contributed to my recovery. I feel they are friends, as well as the doctors. KDH is a great hospital with wonderful people. Carry on!”

“I am writing this email in regards to my recent shoulder surgery experience. I would like to inform you that you should be very proud of the great team you have formulated; from the screening person to the surgical day nurses, the anesthetist and surgeon, everyone was outstanding. All your staff should be given accolades for their outstanding care and professionalism. The ability of that staff to perform their duties under the duress of the pandemic is one thing, but to provide this level of care should not go unnoticed and I thank each of them for making my brief stay as comfortable and positive as possible. Thank you all for your efforts and keep up the great work; we all appreciate it!”

“This letter is written to express my utmost appreciation and heartfelt thanks to the Emergency Team at KDH. Last Tuesday morning I received a phone call from my teenage son Markus’s school informing me that he had inadvertently eaten a cookie containing peanuts. As he has a life-threatening peanut allergy, this was an immediate cause for concern. Markus was taken to the ER and immediately given a dose of norepinephrine, followed by an infusion after he had a second reaction. Markus was transferred to CHEO by ambulance later in the afternoon. As you can imagine, this was an incredibly impactful experience for Markus and my entire family. We have such respect for the wonderful work of the Emergency Team at KDH, to whom Markus owes his life. Everyone was caring, kind and professional. Special thanks go to Dr. Pelletier, Dr. Jones, and nurses Catherine, Heather, and Melissa."

“I was fortunate enough to have my Total Hip Arthroplasty at KDH. I experienced warm and lovely care everywhere from the moment I walked in until I was discharged. I’d like to express my deep gratitude to the staff on the inpatient surgical unit. The nursing care was exceptional and made a huge difference to my recovery. They always responded to calls and concerns and were kind and supportive at every step (literally and figuratively) in the process. I'd like to give particular mention to Sharon. As a patient, I particularly enjoyed her expertise and confidence in helping me to progress to the next step. She is a quiet, valuable asset to your hospital.”
