What Our Patients Have To Say
“I felt compelled to send a note. I received a total hip at KDH three weeks ago. The experience was fantastic. I was quite stressed about the whole event and the team at KDH put me at ease very quickly. As I arrived I was looked after by Mary-Pat in the prep area. She was great – clear and reassuring in all of her communications and what I needed to do. I immediately felt more comfortable. Dr. Dave the anesthetist was great as well. He was confident, clear and experienced and after him giving me a spinal I really don’t remember a thing. Thanks to Dr. Grammatopoulos for the new hip – three weeks in and things are going well. I would give KDH a mark of 110%. I felt well cared for and the people I dealt with were professional, caring and provided great support.”

“I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the physicians, nurses, nursing aides, dietary, environmental services, lab, and diagnostic imaging staff, and many others who helped so much to make my stay in March so much easier for me. It was a worrying time for me and my family. There was not a single staff member at any time who did not make me feel more at ease and well cared for. I am still finding ways to cope with my condition and slowly but steadily improving with the regular support of my doctors and remain cautiously optimistic, but it looks like a long road ahead. I learned a lot while I was being cared for, particularly about the value of those small instances of human kindness. I wanted to express my appreciation for all the dedicated work everyone at KDH does.”

“Dr. Hosseini treated my adult son, Matthew, in the ER when he was brought in by ambulance. Matthew had experienced an episode involving a rapid, irregular heartbeat resulting in him losing consciousness at home. Dr. Hosseini treated him with the utmost care. She had a number of tests performed which left his diagnosis a little unclear but concerning to her. She consulted with the Heart Institute and he was sent there overnight. They did further tests including scheduling an angiogram. Before they could perform the angiogram, he had another episode. They quickly sent him for the angiogram and discovered a 95% blockage of his left ventricular main artery. They then inserted a stent. We feel that Dr. Hosseini saved Matthew’s life. If she had not followed her instincts that he should be at the Heart Institute that night he might not have survived. She is to be commended for her caring professionalism. We cannot thank her enough.”

“I am writing this email in regards to my recent shoulder surgery experience. I would like to inform you that you should be very proud of the great team you have formulated; from the screening person to the surgical day nurses, the anesthetist and surgeon, everyone was outstanding. All your staff should be given accolades for their outstanding care and professionalism. The ability of that staff to perform their duties under the duress of the pandemic is one thing, but to provide this level of care should not go unnoticed and I thank each of them for making my brief stay as comfortable and positive as possible. Thank you all for your efforts and keep up the great work; we all appreciate it!”

“My two-year-old daughter and I were in the KDH emergency department last night and we were gifted the sweetest little knitted doll. It really made all the difference to my daughter. I would very much like to thank the people that make the dolls and donate to their supplies, and am wondering if it’s possible to get the name of the person who knitted this one so we can name it after them.”

“I would like to thank and compliment all the staff we encountered at our visit to the ER yesterday with our 11-year-old son. Everyone we encountered was wonderful from the screener at the door to the doctor. In particular Dr. Brisebois was amazing, leaving no stone unturned to ensure our son didn't have any underlying issues. Valetta and all the other nurses were so helpful. We could see everyone was working flat out but they all had time and patience for us.”

“It is with immense gratitude that we write to express our appreciation for our mother’s recent inpatient stay. Georgina was admitted through the ER and spent a few weeks on the inpatient medical unit before being transferred to Convalescent Care. She is 89 years of age. It is quite safe to say that her care at KDH was exemplary from her time in the ER to her organized discharge just over three months later. Our family would like to extend our warmest thanks to all the nurses, RPN's, and dietary staff who were involved in her care. We are also most grateful for the care and excellence provided to her daily by the Occupational Therapist and the Physiotherapy Team. KDH delivers excellence in the care of our aging population with a client-centred approach, with very driven teams, not only to complete daily tasks but to accomplish patient goals."

“I’d like to share about the beautiful experience I had in your ER last week. To begin, the woman at the COVID screening station was so kind and understanding. She even allowed my five-year-old and myself to sit outside for our lunch, so I could give him some fresh air and room to move around. Our time with Dr Brisebois was possibly the best experience I’ve ever had with a physician. He was so kind and patient. He listened to my concerns as a parent. He validated our experience and shared plenty of information, and was just a rare gem in the medical field.”

“I had surgery at KDH for a knee injury. The experience I had was like no other. The video of what to expect was superbly done and put me at ease before I arrived. The greeter was welcoming and had a great sense of humour. I could tell he really enjoyed his job! The nurse who took care of me explained everything that would happen. I shared with her my fear of IVs and she used a small needle and distracted me so I felt only a pinch. Dr. Marshall explained the procedure and what would happen. He wheeled me into surgery and the people in the OR all introduced themselves and told me what they do. After the surgery, another nurse was there when I opened my eyes and she could see I was confused so she told me it was ok to go back to sleep for a little while. Later, she made sure I was ready to go. I work in the Human Resources field, and I would love to know more about how you create a culture where everyone wants to be at work and be their best selves!”

"After three months of convalescent care at KDH, my wife and I wanted to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for all the care staff who attended to me during my stay. From the moment I arrived at the unit, I was struck by the welcoming and compassionate atmosphere. I would like to extend a special thank you to every member of the care staff for your helpfulness and kindness. You all played an important role in aiding my recovery, not just physically but also emotionally. What sets this convalescent unit apart is the genuine care and concern shown towards residents. I never once felt like just a bed number but rather an individual who was valued and respected. The encouragement given to residents to improve their health and engage in social activities also greatly enriched my experience. I made new friends and created lasting memories. I cannot thank you enough for your unwavering support. I will always remember my time there with fondness, thanks to the wonderful care staff who made it a home away from home. Thank you for everything."
