Dr. Darryl Young

Chief, Department of Surgery

Dr. Darryl Young received both a B.Sc. (Honours) degree in Biochemistry and Neuroscience and his M.D. at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John’s.


Subsequently he did his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the University of Ottawa, which he followed up with two Clinical Fellowships: the first at the Hand and Upper Limb Centre, St. Joseph’s Health Care, University of Western Ontario in London; and the second in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at North Shore Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand.

Dr. Young is certified with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Certified Specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery) and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (Advanced Trauma Techniques).

Dr. Young’s list of publications in medical journals demonstrates a focus on elbow and wrist surgery. He has received numerous awards for academic achievement as well as volunteering. Since his student days Dr. Young has been heavily involved in medical organizations, such as Team Broken Earth, a volunteer taskforce composed of physicians, nurses, and physiotherapists from across Canada and beyond, committed to delivering and improving healthcare where it’s needed most.
